What Is WorkCover Physiotherapy?

WorkCover physiotherapy is physiotherapy for a work-related injury, paid for by WorkCover Queensland. If your claim is accepted, WorkCover covers the cost of your treatment.

Work injuries are common, and most are physical. Body stressing injuries (the muscle, joint and ligament strains that physiotherapists treat) are the most common cause of serious work injuries in Australia, making up around 1/3 of serious workers' compensation claims.

Physiotherapy helps you recover from these injuries and get back to work safely. We treat the injury and rebuild your strength and movement. Everything we do keeps your job and your goals in mind.

Who Is Eligible For WorkCover Physiotherapy?

To have physiotherapy covered by WorkCover, you generally need:

  • A work-related injury or condition (it happened at work or because of your work).

  • A Work Capacity Certificate from your doctor.

  • An accepted claim with WorkCover Queensland or your employer's self-insurer.

Journey Claims In Queensland

You may also be covered if you are hurt travelling between home and work. This is called a journey claim. The journey needs to be direct, without major detours for personal reasons. If you were injured on your commute, mention it to your doctor when you get your certificate.

Do You Need A Referral For WorkCover Physiotherapy?

For a WorkCover claim, you need a Work Capacity Certificate from your doctor. This is different from a standard referral, and your GP completes it when they assess your injury. It confirms your injury and your capacity for work.

Your doctor will usually refer you to a physiotherapist as part of your treatment. Once you have your certificate and claim number, you can book in with us.

How Many Physiotherapy Sessions Does WorkCover Cover?

WorkCover Queensland pre-approves your first 5 physiotherapy sessions once your claim is accepted. This includes your first (initial) consultation.

If you need more treatment, your physiotherapist prepares a Provider Management Plan (sometimes called a management plan). This sets out your progress and the treatment you still need. WorkCover reviews it and approves further sessions where they are reasonable and necessary.

There is no set limit on total sessions. What matters is that the treatment helps your recovery and your return to work.

How Much Does WorkCover Physiotherapy Cost?

For an accepted claim, WorkCover physiotherapy costs you nothing. There is no gap and no out-of-pocket fee.

WorkCover Queensland pays your physiotherapist directly, at the rates set in its physiotherapy table of costs. As a WorkCover provider, Pimpama Physiotherapy bills WorkCover for you, so you can focus on getting better.
