Vertigo, Dizziness & Concussion Physiotherapy on the Gold Coast

Dizziness is hard to live with. It throws off your balance. Screens and shopping centres become exhausting, and simple daily tasks stop being enjoyable.

The good news is that many causes of dizziness respond well to the right physiotherapy, and some improve within a few sessions. Our physiotherapists are trained in vertigo, dizziness and concussion care. We check how your eyes, inner ear and balance are working. You can see us at our Pimpama clinic, or we can come to you at home across the Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane, which is often easier when symptoms are bad.

Common Causes of Vertigo and Dizziness We Treat

Dizziness has many causes, and the right treatment depends on getting the diagnosis right. These are the conditions we see most often.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)

The spinning feeling you get when you roll over in bed or look up. We treat it with simple head and body movements, such as the Epley manoeuvre. It often settles in one or two sessions.

Vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis

Inflammation of the inner ear, often after a virus, causing sudden severe vertigo that lasts days to weeks. Vestibular rehabilitation helps your brain adjust.

Meniere's disease

A long-term inner ear condition causing bouts of vertigo, hearing loss, ringing in the ear (tinnitus) and a feeling of fullness. Your ENT specialist manages the medical side while we help with balance between attacks.

Vestibular hypofunction

When one inner ear works less well than the other, causing ongoing imbalance, dizziness with head movement and blurred vision.

Vestibular migraine

Dizziness that comes with migraine, often without the headache.

Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD)

Dizziness that hangs around long after the first trigger has gone.

Concussion and post-concussion symptoms

Including dizziness, headache, brain fog, neck pain, trouble with exercise and sensitivity to light and noise.

Balance problems and falls

Common in older adults.

How Vestibular Physiotherapy Treats Vertigo and Dizzines

After a full assessment, we match the treatment to the cause. BPPV is the most common cause of vertigo, and repositioning manoeuvres like the Epley clear it in most people, often within 2 or 3 sessions, with success rates commonly reported around 80% to 90%.

For vestibular hypofunction, recovery after vestibular neuritis, Meniere's disease or PPPD, we use a structured exercise program called vestibular rehabilitation. These exercises retrain your brain to work with the signals from your inner ear. Many people make good progress in four to eight weeks, depending on the cause and how often you do the exercises.

What to Expect at Your First Vestibular Assessment

Your first visit starts with your story. When does the dizziness happen? How long does it last? What brings it on?

We may then check your eye movements, test the positions that set off your symptoms and look at your balance and neck. The goal is to find what is really driving the dizziness, so treatment targets the cause and not just the symptom.

We will also be honest about what physiotherapy can and cannot do, and what a realistic plan looks like for you.

Concussion Physiotherapy and Recovery on the Gold Coast

Most people recover from a concussion within about a month. When symptoms last longer, evidence supports neck and vestibular physiotherapy for the dizziness, headache and balance problems that linger.

Concussion care has changed a lot in recent years. Complete rest is out, and guided light activity is in. We use current return-to-learn, return-to-work and return-to-sport plans, with close attention to the neck and inner ear, which often drive symptoms. We then build the plan around your goal, whether that is getting an athlete back on the field, easing a worker back to a screen, or helping a parent get through the school run without symptoms.

Funding for neurological physiotherapy

We are a registered NDIS provider and work with the Support at Home program for older adults. We can also support private clients, motor vehicle accident (CTP) claims, DVA clients and eligible Medicare Chronic Disease Management referrals.

If you are a participant of the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ), you may be eligible for rehabilitation services under the scheme. Contact us to discuss your situation.

Eligibility and funding depend on your individual circumstances and plan, so it is worth a quick chat to work out what applies to you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vertigo and Concussion

Can physiotherapy help vertigo?

Yes. Many causes of vertigo, especially BPPV, respond well to physiotherapy. Repositioning manoeuvres like the Epley's to clear BPPV in most people, often within two or three sessions.

How long does vertigo last?

It depends on the cause. BPPV often settles quickly with treatment. Vertigo from vestibular neuritis can last days to weeks, and vestibular rehabilitation helps recovery.

What is the Epley manoeuvre?

It is a simple series of guided head and body movements that shifts displaced crystals out of the inner-ear canal causing your vertigo. It is usually done in the clinic and often works within one or two sessions.

How long does it take to recover from a concussion?

Most people recover within about a month. If symptoms last longer, targeted neck and vestibular physiotherapy can help.

Can I exercise with a concussion?

Yes. Guided light activity below your symptom threshold is now recommended over complete rest. A physiotherapist can set the right level for you.

Do you treat vertigo and dizziness at home?

Yes. We offer home visits across the Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane, which can be easier when symptoms are severe.
